The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University (GSU) branch, has demanded the immediate settlement of outstanding entitlements owed to its members, expressing frustration over what it described as failed engagements with the state government.

The position of the union was contained in a communiqué issued after its congress meeting held on Wednesday at the English lecture theatre of the varsity.

According to the communiqué signed by the branch chairman, Dr Mustapha Shehu, and secretary, Dr Aliyu Shelleng, “the Congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities Gombe State University branch received the reports of the efforts by the leadership to get the Government to settle outstanding entitlements of members.”

The union, however, said it was dissatisfied with the outcome of those efforts, noting that “all efforts made by the leadership in this regard proved abortive.”
Consequently, the congress resolved that “the Government should settle all outstanding entitlements with immediate effect.”

ASUU listed the outstanding entitlements to include “the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement,” covering “new salary table, enhanced postgraduate supervision allowance, enhanced teaching practice/industrial supervision/field trip allowance, and enhanced responsibility allowance.”
The communiqué further highlighted other demands such as “the arrears of the 25 per cent and 35 per cent wage award,” “the N70,000 minimum wage,” “the arrears of the N30,000 minimum wage,” as well as “the backlog of Earned Academic Allowance covering 2021–2024.”
The union warned that it may escalate the matter if the government fails to act promptly, stating that “the Congress may consider other options if the Government fails to address these issues.”
