A political group in Bauchi State known as Tinubu Continuity has warned that the state governor, Bala Mohammed, may jeopardise President Bola Tinubu’s re-election chances if he defects to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The spokesperson for the group, Aliyu Muhammad, in a press release issued to journalists on Monday, alleged that the governor’s supporters “will back the party and the governor’s candidates at the state level, but not the president.”
He further claimed that the governor’s supporters are chanting the slogan, “APC iya linta banda sama” (meaning APC only at the state level, not at the top).
The group also condemned the national leadership of the APC and the Federal Government over their “handling of politics in Bauchi State,” warning that the party risks losing its core supporters if the governor joins.
“Original APC supporters are upset, and Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s supporters are not with Tinubu. They will support him at the state level, but not for president,” he said.
Recall that speculation about the governor’s defection has sparked uproar within the Bauchi APC, with some party leaders publicly opposing the move.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is also said to be wooing the governor, as a party delegation recently visited him.
