An Oredo Magistrate Court , in Benin City, Edo State has remanded a 76-year-old alleged Land Grabber- Imade Frank at the Benin Correctional Centre following allegations of property demolition and land grabbing.
The proceedings, presided over by Chief Magistrate C.E. Oghuma Esq. Chief Magistrate (Special Grade) Sitting as Oredo Magistrate Court 2,Benin City , centred on a dispute involving the defendant and the nominal complainant, Mrs. Vivian Ekhator, a land developer.
The complainant was represented by a legal team led by Douglas Ogbankwa Esq. and Success Idemudia, who held the brief for Mrs. Ekhator.
During the court session, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector D.O. Imafidon, vehemently opposed the defendant’s bail application. The prosecution argued that Mr. Frank had demonstrated a disregard for legal processes, alleging that he proceeded to demolish Mrs. Ekhator’s structure while out on administrative bail for the same matter.
Despite the prosecution’s objections, the Court exercised its discretion to grant the defendant bail. However, the 76-year-old was remanded in custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
The matter has been adjourned to May 27, 2026, for the commencement of the formal hearing. The case continues to draw attention to the ongoing efforts of the authorities to curb the activities of land grabbers within the Benin metropolis.
