The All Progressives Congress house of representatives and senate primary elections committee in Gombe State has declared that the party’s primaries across the six federal constituencies were conducted transparently and in compliance with the electoral act.
Chairman of the committee, Labiru Musa, made this known during a press briefing in gombe on sunday while announcing the outcome of the primaries.
According to him, the committee was mandated by the party’s national working committee to “deliver a transparent, credible, and flawless primary election across the six federal house of representatives constituencies in gombe state.”
“Our overarching objective was to ensure that the bedrock of progressive politics which is the absolute will of the grassroots membership was fully protected, thereby strengthening party cohesion ahead of the general elections,” Musa said.
He explained that the committee adopted the direct primary mode and introduced strict verification measures to ensure only genuine party members voted.
“Voting eligibility was strictly predicated on two synchronised levels of verification: the physical presentation of valid apc membership cards matched against the comprehensive party membership registers at every voting point,” he stated.
Musa added that members of the committee monitored the exercise physically across major centres including kumo, billiri, kaltungo and gombe to ensure transparency.
“The operations at all voting points were fully decentralised, conducted completely in the open, and subjected to the scrutiny of independent monitors, civil society observers, and national security agencies,” he said.
Announcing the results, the committee declared Usman Bello Kumo winner of the Akko Federal Constituency primary after polling 21,813 votes.
In Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency, Ali Isa JC emerged winner with 23,362 votes, defeating Alfred John, who scored 2,822 votes, and saratu hamman jauro, who polled 224 votes.
For Dukku/Nafada federal constituency, Jamilu Ahmed Shabewa secured victory with 28,144 votes against umar ahmed’s 1,066 votes.
In Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Saddam Bello won with 54,260 votes, defeating Zakariya Jidda, who garnered 5,902 votes.
The committee also declared fatima binta bello winner of the Kaltungo/Shongom constituency with 13,824 votes, while Inuwa Garba emerged victorious in yamaltu/deba with 23,840 votes.
Musa described the exercise as peaceful and orderly, saying it demonstrated that the apc’s internal democratic process remained strong.
“The peaceful atmosphere, the orderly conduct of aspirants, and the massive disciplined turnout across the state prove beyond doubt that apc internal democracy is robust, stable, and deeply institutionalised,” he said.
He added that the committee had concluded documentation of the exercise and would forward the certified results to the party’s national working committee for ratification.
The committee chairman also commended the nigeria police force and other security agencies for what he described as professionalism during the exercise, while appreciating party members for their participation.
