NDC-CAN faults Hakeem Ahmed’s comments on Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a press statement issued by the Office of the National Co-Chair, the group described the remarks as “unfortunate, misleading, and unnecessary,” stressing that Nigerians expect political leaders to focus on national development and issue-based politics.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Zakari Garba Zakari Burra said the comments were capable of creating avoidable political distractions at a critical period in the country.
“We find these comments unfortunate, misleading, and unnecessary at a time Nigerians expect political leaders to focus on national rebuilding and issue-based engagement,” Burra stated.
The coalition noted that many Nigerians were familiar with Dr. Baba Ahmed’s recent political activities, including his role in the current administration before his resignation.
“It is important to state that many Nigerians are fully aware of Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed’s recent political history, including his service within the current administration and his frequent public defence of government policies before his resignation,” the statement read.
According to the group, the recent comments have raised questions among citizens regarding the consistency of the PRP chairman’s political position.
“As such, his present posture and comments naturally invite public scrutiny, with many citizens questioning the consistency of his political stance,” Burra added.
NDC-CAN further alleged that the remarks were targeted at diverting attention from the increasing national support being enjoyed by the NDC movement and opposition figures like Obi and Kwankwaso.
“The NDC Coalition Alliance Network views his remarks as an attempt to create unnecessary political distractions around the growing national support for the NDC movement and respected leaders such as His Excellency Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,” the statement said.
The coalition advised the PRP chairman to focus on strengthening his party and presenting Nigerians with practical alternatives.
“We urge Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed to concentrate on building the PRP into a credible political platform capable of offering Nigerians clear alternatives, rather than making statements targeted at leaders and movements whose popularity continues to grow across the country,” Burra said.
The group also called on political leaders across the country to prioritise solutions to insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and governance challenges instead of engaging in divisive political rhetoric.
“The task before every responsible political leader today is to provide solutions to the insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and poor governance facing our nation — not engage in statements that deepen political suspicion and division,” the statement added.
NDC-CAN maintained that the 2027 elections should be centred on ideas, integrity, and national interest.
“Nigerians deserve transparent leadership, principled politics, and leaders whose public records align with their current pronouncements. The 2027 election must be defined by credible ideas and national interest, not by statements intended to discourage legitimate political participation,” Burra concluded.
