The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set its sights on winning all elective positions ahead of Saturday local government elections in Gombe State, as Governor Muhammadu Yahaya received a strong endorsement from the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
Speaking on Wednesday during the presentation of party flags to APC chairmanship and councillorship candidates in Gombe, Yahaya expressed confidence that the ruling party would secure a landslide victory across the state’s 11 local government areas.
The governor said the APC remained the dominant political force in Gombe and was determined to consolidate its hold on power through unity, performance and grassroots support.
“We are determined to repeat our electoral successes and retain all elective positions under the APC platform. Our strength lies in our unity, commitment and the confidence the people have in our leadership,” Yahaya said.
He noted that the party had continued to record electoral successes in the state and urged members to remain focused and united ahead of the polls.
According to him, the APC’s objective is to retain control of all local government councils and legislative seats, while strengthening governance at the grassroots through the state’s 11 local government areas and 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
Yahaya also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting major infrastructure projects in the state, particularly the ongoing superhighway project traversing parts of the North-East.
He said the road project, recently inspected by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, would enhance connectivity, stimulate commerce and improve the living standards of citizens.
“We appreciate President Tinubu’s commitment to the development of Gombe State and the North-East. These projects are in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which continues to inspire confidence among Nigerians,” he stated.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s support for the Federal Government’s development agenda, saying its impact was already visible across critical sectors.
Earlier, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, praised Yahaya for what he described as outstanding achievements in infrastructure, education and social development.
He said visits to communities and project sites across the state revealed tangible evidence of governance delivering benefits to citizens.
“I visited communities, institutions, universities, road projects and cultural centres. What I saw was democracy working for the people. The projects are touching lives and improving livelihoods across the state,” he said.
The APC chairman added that market women, traders, farmers and other residents he interacted with expressed satisfaction with the administration’s performance.
Professor Nentawe also lauded President Tinubu for ongoing and proposed federal infrastructure projects across Northern Nigeria, including major road corridors linking Akwanga, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe and Maiduguri.
According to him, the projects would deepen regional integration, facilitate trade and significantly reduce travel time across the region.
He further highlighted plans for a railway line connecting Port Harcourt to Maiduguri and gas infrastructure projects aimed at boosting industrialisation and expanding energy access.
Urging APC leaders and supporters to sustain mobilisation efforts ahead of the local government elections, the national chairman said the party’s popularity was rooted in its commitment to development and service delivery.
“APC remains firmly rooted among the people. Our success is based on good governance, development and our commitment to improving the lives of citizens,” he said.
