The collapse of the new Gombe State House of Assembly building has reportedly claimed the lives of two people, with several others sustaining injuries. This heartbreaking incident is not just a construction accident—it is a matter of serious public concern that deserves a transparent investigation.

According to an investigation by our Periscope reporter, the incident occurred while construction was ongoing, when a section of the building suddenly collapsed on workers. One person died at the scene, while seven others were injured. Sadly, the media in the state later confirmed the death of a second victim due to injuries sustained in the collapse.

Three of the injured victims were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe, while five others were rushed to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital for medical treatment.
The Head of Operations of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Gombe Operations Office, Ummanah Ahmed, confirmed the incident.

This is not just about a building—it is about the lives of our people. “This is a matter that concerns all of us.” The public deserves answers about the quality of the construction, adherence to safety standards, and whether negligence played any role in this tragic loss of life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery. Authorities must ensure a thorough investigation and hold anyone found responsible accountable.
