That one sentence explains a lot of the divorce filings we’re seeing.
Many men grew up watching a model: dad provided, mom endured. Mom cooked, cleaned, stayed quiet, took the disrespect, and called it “for the sake of the Children.” That was the standard. Stability meant sacrifice, mostly from her.
Today those same men walk into marriage expecting that template. Provider role, final say, respect without reciprocity. But they’re marrying women who went to school, earn money, and have seen therapy on TikTok.
Women no longer tolerate what their mothers endured. Not the cheating excused as “men will be men.” Not the emotional labor with no appreciation. Not the finances controlled by one person. Not the silence to keep peace.
So the clash happens. He thinks she’s “too stubborn” or “doesn’t submit.” She thinks he’s “entitled” and “emotionally unavailable.”
Divorce isn’t rising because people hate commitment. It’s rising because the old contract is expired, but only one side was told.
Marriage now demands partnership, not performance. Friendship, not hierarchy. Accountability, not endurance.
Until men update the blueprint and women stop being shamed for having standards, the rate will keep climbing.
