Edo State at the bottom of the ladder of progress among the comity of sub-national governments. That is not a typo. It is the verdict.
Edo recorded the weakest momentum in the 2026 Momentum Index at “-0.79,” placing it last among 33 assessed states. The negative score means our progress was slower than the national average. Let that sink in.
This is Edo State with Benin’s historic trade routes, agricultural potential, human capital, and strategic location in the South-South. Yet we were outpaced by Jigawa, Gombe, Sokoto, and Borno. Outpaced. States dealing with desertification, insecurity, and far fewer coastal advantages moved faster than us.
The data exposes a painful truth, size and revenue don’t guarantee movement. Deliberate policy and execution do. While other states reformed, we rehearsed. While others built, we branded and “agberolized.”
Edo state Government don take first from the back. It’s not just failure, it’s Surugede, that macabre dance of spirit where motion looks like activity but leads nowhere.
At 73, leaders like Mama Daisy Danjuma remind us that leadership is about moving destinies, not just occupying office. Edo people deserve that kind of momentum.
We need urgent reform, not excuses. Because the numbers are in, and they are shouting.
