If you are in the UK, come out and meet His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for one-on-one discussion. Edo State is peaceful and open for business.” – Protocol Officer
That sounds sweet on paper. But let’s ask the hard questions.
Why is the Governor doing investor roadshows in the UK while hospitals in Benin don’t have drugs? While students sit six to a desk? While roads inside Edo are still death traps?
You can’t sell “peaceful and open for business” abroad when the people at home are protesting hunger, blackouts, and no jobs. Investors are not stupid. They will Google. They will ask, where is power? Where is security? Where are the skilled workers?
One-on-one with who? Diaspora investors deserve real data, not vibes. Show us the procurement portal. Show us last year’s budget performance. Show us which industries in Edo are actually working.
Flyovers don’t attract FDI. Policy, power, and predictability do.
We are not against investment. We are against “Hallelujah Projects” and PR tours that ignore home.
Fix Benin first. Fix the clinics first. Then invite the world. Because no serious investor will build in a state where the citizens can’t even live well.
