The Deputy governor of Gombe state Dr. Manassah Jatau, on thursday at his office inaugurated the state Road Safety Advisory Council on behalf of the state Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who is in the entourage of the president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari, to Sochi, Russia.
Jatau said the responsibility of the council is to put an end to incessant road crashes in the state. Establish a central database of road traffic data, review and upgrade of road design standards and promoting the construction and maintenance of road and the road network to meet the mobility and access to road by all users.
“The council is to build comprehensive inspection of all vehicles. Awareness campaign on proper use. Improved responsiveness to post crash emergencies and identification and deployment of fund to identified strategic initiatives” he said.
The sector commander Dr Godwin Omiko, noted that Gombe state represents North East zone in the National Road Safety Advisory Council “Gombe state is the second state to be inaugurated after Kwara state. The technical working group is not limited to members but to everyone in this room” Omiko said.
The chairman of Gombe state safety council is the deputy Governor, commissioners of Works,Transport,Health, Justice,Education, Finance,Environment, who were represented by their permanent Secretaries until they are sworn into office, state planning commission, Nigeria society of Engineers and the FRSC sector commander is to serve as secretary.
