Elites using religion to divide the country- Gombe Gov

Gombe State governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has identified religion as a major tool deployed by elites to cause disintegration among citizens of Nigeria.
Yahaya also stressed that hunger knows no creed noting that the panacea is good governance.
He disclosed this on Saturday, in his address to Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Gombe state chapter, who paid him Christmas and New homage.
According to Yahaya, he swore by the Quran as a muslim, to provide all and sundry qualitative leadership, to uphold justice and deepen democratic dividends in the state.
Yahaya who pledged 25million naira support to CAN building project, also announced an additional 10 million naira to members of the organization present at the visit.
He said, “On coming to office I swore by the Quran because I’m a muslim to promote Fairness, Justice and Equity and I believe am doing my best in other to actualise this. That is why we went to the nooks and crannies of Gombe state to ensure there is development when you talk of road we said we will put up at least 11 kilometers in each local government.
“I have always told them that it is the elite that use religion, and ethnicity to divide people. Any good leader will ensure he works to the satisfaction of all and sundry. The hallmark of good leadership is to provide the right services to the people and that is what we are committed to.”
While urging the association and her members to ensure peaceful coexistence, to ensure progress and development.
“Despite the hardship, economic challenges that leadership is going through we will still achieve our aims and objectives because we are determined. Hunger, poverty and disease have no eyes doesn’t know a Christian or Muslim,” he said.
On his part, CAN North East chairman, Abari Kalla, thanked the governor for his support to the Christian community in the state.
Kalla further assured of greater support from members of his community in the state.
Also speaking, CAN caretaker committee chairman, Sunday Bongo, who was represented by the secretary, John Adetiba, thanked the governor for the slot made available to the Association for the holy pilgrimage.
He also urged Yahaya to consider the full constitution of the pilgrimage welfare board to ensure it ultimatum performance.
