Gombe United picked another point in the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) as they forced Mighty Jets International Fc to a goalless draw in the week six fixture played at the new Jos Stadium on Saturday.
According to Halilu Teli, Media Officer of Gombe United, the Savannah Scorpions missed the services of their number five and six respectively – Ahmed Family (suspension) and ALege Abdulquadri as veteran Maurice Chigozie and Edoka Ewoicho filled in the vacuum.
He added that the match kicked off at exactly four o’clock with a boring first half as both sides failed to dictate the pace of the game; making series of mistakes.
He said, “Goalkeeper Itodo Akor made strings of saves in the last twenty minutes of the first half to denied the hosts the chance to break the jinx.
“The second half was much alive as Gombe United mounted more pressure on Mighty Jets looking for an opener but to know as the hosts defense proved solid .
Shey Ferdinand almost broke the deadlock for Mighty Jets in the sixty six minutes when he pulled a bullet header from a resultant corner but the ball went off the post; Sani Suleiman on the other hand beat three players from the left flank in the eighty four minutes before setting Barnabas Daniel whose shot went off target.
On his part, Gombe United’s Technical Adviser Aliyu Zubairu, who was elated at the performance said his team is equal to the task.
He said, “Well! I have to first of all give thanks to Allah for everything; it’s still work in progress; the boys are getting use to our tactical approach both at home and away, that’s my joy.
“We have good thirty five players, and everyone is equal to the task; you can see i’m missing my vice captain Mamma, Abdulazeez and many key players but it doesn’t show. We’re building a structure not players, there is no cause for alarm.”
While commenting on the level of officiation, he stressed that they fair.
“I believe the officiating has been very very good so far and I will urge them to continue to do the way they are doing,” he added.
Gombe United has garnered eleven points in five matches- with three win and two draws, will host Fc Taraba in their #NNL21 match day 7 midweek fixture this Wednesday at the Pantami stadium.
