FG open to diversifying economy, seeks collaboration with private sector
Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, says the Federal Government is open to economic diversification to improve its productivity.
Osinbajo, made this disclosure on Friday in Gombe while declaring close a three-day maiden Gombe Investment Summit at the International Conference Centre.
He said the most viable means to economic prosperity would be for the partnership of both public and private establishments.
According to the Vice President, “As a progressive government, we remain committed to policies and reform efforts that are geared towards economic diversification and improved productivity.”
The Vice President who visited the first phase of Muhammadu Buhari Industrial park, also commended the Gombe State Government for staging the summit, Osinbajo said, “We are proud of the giant strides that Gombe State has recorded so far, but more importantly, we are confident of the successful results of the programmes currently being implemented by the State Government and those that are underway in the areas of health, industrialisation, and agriculture.”
He added, “We must all remain dedicated and focused especially towards the economic diversification and improved productivity of our country. So, we are proud of the giant strides that Gombe State has recorded so far. And we hope that all of what we will be seeing in the next few years will be even more poignant and even much better than what we are seeing today.
“It is also evident to some of us that this State is poised for greater things in the next few years, and from what we see currently being implemented by the State Government, it is clear that what we will see in another couple of years will be much better than what we have seen in the past few years.”
Speaking earlier, Gombe State Governor, Yahaya vowed to actualise his aspiration towards a prosperous mega city.
He said, “We shall do whatever it takes to make sure we deliver on this mandate and we shall do whatever it takes to make sure Nigeria moves forward.”
On his part, The Emir of Gombe, Alh. Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, lauded the foresight of the governor describing the summit as timely.
“The summit is timely, I like to appreciate the governor for his foresight. I’m confident that the summit will make the needed impact,” Shehu-Abubakar added.
Also, Minister of Communications, Prof. Ibrahim Pantami said Nigeria’s economy is private sector oriented, while encouraging state government’s to key into this.
He added with this knowledge government should prioritise private sector.
