Gombe to bridge HR rage with 440 Health Workers

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, has approved the appointment of 440 health workers, in the administration’s bid to solve Human Resources rage.
Periscope Nigeria reports that inadequate manpower contributes to major challenges impeding access to healthcare especially attainment of Universal Health Coverage.
Conveying the decision of government, Commissioner for Health Dr. Habu Dahiru, said the present administration accords high priority to the healthcare and well-being of the citizens, hence the massive investment in the sector.
He revealed that the administration has upgraded and ensured that there is at least one fully functional Primary Healthcare Centre in each of the 114 ward of the state.
Our Correspondent reports that the 440 include; 106 Midwives, 213 Community Health Extension Workers, 132 Junior Community Health Extension Workers to be deployed to various PHCs.
Dahiru said, “The new employees are to be posted to various primary health care facilities across the state. This is owing to the belief of the Inuwa- led government that primary health care is the bedrock of the health system and an effective and high performing PHC translates to increased productivity, longevity and survival.”
While congratulating the new employees, Dahiru urged them to exhibit high sense of dedication, commitment and hardwork in the discharge of their responsibilities.
On his part, The Executive Secretary of Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Abdulrahman Shuaibu, called on the new health workers to always abide by the ethics of the health profession while carrying out their duties.
Abdulrahaman said, “This recruitment is yet another major milestone in the history of the sector in the state in addition to the recent commencement of housemanship at the specialist hospital, engagement of specialist consultants, commencement of residency training as well as the ongoing construction of a brand new college of nursing and midwifery in Gombe; all geared towards improving the human resource for health capacity in the state.”
