Phoenix Legal Consultants petition EFCC, over Sunny Ogbonna CEO of Proficient Capital

Phoenix Legal Consultants; a legal practitioner, corporate, property and financial consultant, situated in Wuse Zone 5 of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, has petitioned Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over Sunny Ogbonna.
Ogbonna, is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Proficient Capital, a registered company which is basically into savings, loans and investments, with head office in Garki Abuja.
Our Correspondent reports that Proficient Capital is an uncollateralised loan capital agency, they also collect fixed deposit and issue a promissory note with interest rate span for the period agreed.

The Petition was written on behalf of Mr Kings Onofiok, by his solicitor Barrister Samuel Omada and directed to the EFCC through the Chairman, Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, dated 3rd January 2023.
It was however, gathered that Onofiok who is a client to Phoenix Legal Consultants had worked
industriously with gusto for Ogbonna, which made him to elevate and promote Onofiok, to the position of Director of the company.
Upon Onofiok’s promotion, a branch of the company was later opened in Wuse and he was given the responsibility to pioneer, an operational account was created and he was made a signatory to it.
The petition disclosed that even as a director, Onofiok had limited access to funds and was only paid on commission.
The petition partly read, “The CEO (Sunny Ogbonna) systematically fabricated the company in such a way that him
alone had full access to the main account which harbors the junk of the company’s funds.
“Mr Kings Onofiok was sent to Aba by Mr. Sunny Ogbonna on an official
assignment on the 22nd of October, 2022 to supervise one of the projects the company was handling. He only returned on the 3rd of November, 2022, spent two days and hurriedly traveled to Benin city in preparation for his wedding which was already slated for 19th of November, 2022.Upon his return from his
wedding, the whole company was in total shambles.
“The main account which housed the junk of the company’s funds was already looted up to the tune of N100,000,000.00 (One Hundred Million
Naira), cars which were pledged by customers as collateral for their various loans sold, records for its proceeds were not kept, and the CEO was nowhere to be found.”
The legal consult also noted that Onofiok, was also affected from the alleged fraud as he lost over N15 million on an investment, adding that his client had suffered abuses from aggrieved customers.
“Upon enquiry it was discovered that Mr. Sunny had discreetly sold all his assets including cars and moved his family from Abuja to an unknown destination.
Mr. Sunny Ogbonna was later tracked to Lagos state by some private investors and Mr Kings mobilized himself to Lagos. But upon reaching Lagos it turned out that he had left Lagos and all subsequent efforts made to track him up until this very moment has been futile.
“As he returned from the search of Mr. Sunny, Mr Kings who is a Cardiac Arrhythmia patient and his newly wedded wife have been and is still suffering from series of abuses
from both Customers of Proficient Capital and law enforcement agencies. He has been arrested, detained and arraigned thrice and
has cumulatively spent over 14 days in detention before he was later granted bail on the 23rd of December, 2022 by the court.
“Mr Kings who is also a victim (for he invested heavily in Proficient Capital too) and totally oblivious of Mr. Sunny schemes, has remained in constant fear since his release from detention for he doesn’t know where or when his next abuser will surface from. His newly wedded wife and family are all traumatised as a result of this ordeal.
It is on this premise that Phoenix Legal Consultants have written to beseech the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, to use his hallowed office and step into this matter to ensure justice is done,” the petition added.
