Taraba mobile court seals illegal mining site

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, move to safeguard the state’s natural resources by recently banning illegal mining activities in the state and inaugurating a task force to enforce his order has started bearing fruit.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the committee led by the Chairman, General Faransa, has taken into swift action and tirelessly visited various locations in the state to curb the menace.
On Monday, in a mobile Court sitting in Jalingo, the state capital, an illegal mining site located at Mayo Sina in Sardauna council has been sealed off.
This followed the recent conviction of seven individuals, found guilty in engaging in illegal mining in the state. They were convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment with a substantial fine of a hundred thousand naira(#100,000) each.
The Mobile Court on Environmental Protection and Public Safety had earlier on convicted three persons who violated the State order and engaged in illegal mining.
Some items suspected to be precious stones were seized from them and the illegal mining site located in Gidan Argulu, Bali LGA was sealed off.
The Kefas administration is working round the clock to save the state from environmental degradation and protect the residents as well.
“We are making progress against illegal miners. Already, scores of illegal sites have been cordoned off across the state and many arrests have been made,” General Faransa added.
