Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has forwarded the 2023 supplementary budget of the state and that of the local government councils to the Gombe state House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
These were contained in separate letters sent to the house which were read during plenary on Tuesday.
The governor explained that the supplementary budget arose due to unforeseen expenditures incurred during the year as a result of dwindling revenue generation in the 2023 budget. The two supplementary budgets which passed first and second reading after comments from the members were committed to the house committee on appropriation for further legislative scrutiny.
While assuring the house of thorough job on the supplementary budgets, the deputy chairman of the committee Musa Manaja Zambuk, the member representing Yamaltu West said they would work within the timeframe and report back to the house.
Also the members received the 2024- 2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework MTEF which is a document that contains all the macroeconomics indices that would guide the house during its deliberations on the 2024 proposed budget.
Before referring the document to the committee on appropriation, the member representing Nafada North Muhammad Tahir, urged the house to give the desired attention to the document.
Similarly, the state House of Assemble on Tuesday during plenary received the Auditor General Report for Local Government Councils for the year ended 31 December 2022.
The report is the audited financial statement for the eleven local government councils for the year 2022 which the house is expected to look into and make its observations and correction.
The speaker of the house Abubakar Muhammad Luggerewo and other members commended the state government and auditor general’s office for timely audit and report of the financial activities of the local government councils. The audit report was committed to the public account committee for consideration and is given one one month to report back to the house.
