The Gombe Network of Civil Society on Monday said it has observed the just-concluded elections across the 11 Local Government Areas of the state, stressing that it was affected by voter apathy and delay of election materials.

According to a press statement signed by its chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf, which was obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA, the Network, GONET urged for improvement in subsequent elections.
The statement partly read, “Our observation reveals that the election was marred by voter apathy and logistical challenges, with some polling units experiencing delayed arrival of election materials.
“It is evident that there is an urgent need for improvement in subsequent local government elections. GONET strongly urges the government to change the narrative surrounding LGA elections by taking necessary steps to ensure inclusivity and transparency. It is imperative to carry all citizens along in the electoral process to avoid the anomalies witnessed during this recent election.”
While extending its congratulations to the winners of the election, GONET urged them to approach their responsibilities with utmost seriousness. “As the tier of government closest to the people at the grassroots level, it is crucial for them to address the current hardships experienced by citizens. This includes providing basic necessities such as education, healthcare, water, electricity, roads, and subsidised agricultural inputs,” the Network stated.
Yusuf noted that its remains committed to promoting democratic principles, adding “accountable governance, and holistic development within Gombe State. We call on all stakeholders to work together towards achieving a more transparent and inclusive electoral process that truly reflects the will of the people.”
