Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has reiterated his administration’s commitment to a preservation and promotion of traditions, culture and unity of respective communities across the State.
Speaking at the third Kushi Cultural Day in Shongom Local Government on Saturday, Governor Yahaya called on the Community engage in deliberate activities that will make traditional and Cultural practices attractive to the present generation of young people.


Represented by the Secretary to Government of Gombe State, Professor Abubakar Ibrahim Njodi, the governor challenged parents to promote indigenous dialect speaking especially in homes and in community engagements.
This according to Governor Yahaya will afford young people know, understand and imbibe history, tradition and cultural values that bound societies in the past.
He maintained that culture been the identity of individuals and communities can only be sustained if elder, parents and leaders at all levels collectively commit to the noble idea of Cultural promotion and preservation for generations yet unborn.
The governor used the occasion to awaken the people on the need for security consciousness by being proactive in reporting threats to the security and well-being of the community.
He disclosed that the State government’s wisdom behind the establishment of the Muhammadu Industrial Park in Dadin Kowa is to among other objectives provide direct and indirect employment opportunities for teeming youths to reduce idleness and restiveness.
Responding to some of the demands of Kushi Community, the governor directed Shongom Local Council Chairperson to liaise with the Commissioner of Water resources to provide more water sources across the community.
He also tasked the Kushi Community Development Association to establish an educational endowment fund to cater for indigent students.
Speaking on personal level as the newly appointed traditional title holder of Zanna of Kushi, the SGS appreciated the Kushi traditional leadership for the honour and made personal donation of one million naira for development activities in the area.
The guest speaker at the occasion Vice Chancellor,Gombe State University, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta emphasised the need for institutional advocacy and promotion of cultural heritage inview of trending threats from foreign or imported cultures.
Yauta appealed to parents, community and religious as well as educationalists to brace up to the challenge of promoting the speaking of indigenous languages and traditional practices for their sustainability.
He raised concern to the attitude and negative orientation of some parents who feel ashamed of their indigenous dialects and cultural practices in terms of dress, food and behaviours calling for change.
The occasion featured display of cultural artefacts, traditional foods, presentation of of awards of excellence and conferment traditional titles on deserving friends,sons and daughters of the community as well as Fung raising for developmental purposes in the Community.
Some of the award and traditional title recipients include the Secretary to Gombe State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, acting Vice Chancellor Gombe State University, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, and the Chairperson Shongom Local Government Council Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello among others.
