State Advocacy, Logistics Committee completes Sensitisation engagement with Traditional Rulers, LGAs
…expresses optimism about 2023 Census
The 2023 National Population Advocacy and logistics committee, Gombe State has rounded off its visits to emirates and chiefdoms and inauguration of Local Government sub committees on census with a visit to Kaltungo and Tangale chiefdoms as well as Akko and Pindiga emirates in Kaltungo, Billiri and Akko Local Government Areas respectively.

Speaking in all places visited, the chairman of the committee who is also the State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, represented by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee and commissioner for justice Zubairu Mohammed Umar, narrated the Committee’s essence of visits was to educate and sensitise people of the state on importance of head count and house numbering in determining development indices and proper planning for it’s population.
He further listed the importance of census to helping government in providing the indices of sharing and allocation of national wealth equitably within the people of respective Governments from the national to the sub- national levels.

He informed them that there would be a rigorous head count for three consecutive days which will call for declaration of a total lock down where there would be no movements to allow every individual to be counted noting that the head count would be preceded by house and numbering and counting.
The Chairman charged the local Government sub- Committees to work assiduously to ensure that all people are counted and pleaded with community leaders to support the enumeration officers so as to carry their assignment effectively.
The Federal Commissioner, National Population commission Gombe State, Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Danburam, said during the head count people are going to be asked a lot of questions which must be answered but, non would be asked questions concerning one’s faith, and tribe because such questions may likely creat tensions that could lead to doubts and frictions which may not augur well with the nation.
In their respective Palaces, the Mai Kaltungo Engineer Sale Mohammed , Mai Tangle Alhaji Danladi Sunusi Maiyamba, in Kaltungo and Billiri Local Government Areas as well as the Emir of Pindiga Alhaji Seyoji Ahmed, and that of Akko Alhaji Umar Atiku, in Akko Local Government Area, all pledged commitment to give their total support to the success of the headcount.
They charged their District and Village Heads to work hard to ensure that all people are counted adding that,perhaps, it may be used for creating more Local Governments or upgrading of District Heads etc.
He also cautioned them to ensure they educate the Heads of other tribes, non-indigenes in their domains not to travel to their communities of origin as this may defeat the purpose of conducting census by the National population commission.
Chairmen of Caretaker committees of Kaltungo LGA; Faruk Aliyu, that of Shongom LGA; Yohanna Nahari and Billiri LGA, Margret Bitrus Paulo, as well as that of Akko LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Barambu, all pledged to intensify their efforts of educating the people in their respective communities on the need to be counted.
